Write For Us

Contributors (Voluntary)

TRS would be nothing without the hard work of its contributors. Hailing from around the world, ascribing to assorted political persuasions, and specialising in an even wider range of disciplines, the diversity of our team is reflected in the varied content that is published.

We used to ask for a CV, covering letter and writing sample but found this a rather dull and monotonous process both for our applicants and for ourselves; so we’ve simplified it. To apply to write for TRS all you need to do is send us your first article {[email protected]}, tell us where in the world you are from and what you do. Our selection process is pretty straight forward: if we like what we read then you’re part of the team!

What We Look For

All contributions submitted to theriskyshift.com must be original pieces that have not been published elsewhere nor are being considered for publication elsewhere. That said, after your article has been published on TRS you are more than welcome to publish it on your own personal blog.

We look for pieces that we can describe as:

    • Provocative – will it start a debate?
    • Current – is it happening now?
    • Constructive – are you contributing something worthy to the debate?
    • Factually well-grounded – does it use facts (not anecdotes) to back up its argument? And, importantly, have you linked to those sources?

Pieces must:

    • be 600-800 words long, split into small paragraphs for ease of reading.
    • have a well-grounded argument and clear structure.
    • cover a topic in an area within our remit.
    • be largely free of spelling and grammatical errors.

Once you have submitted your article through the content management system it will be checked to ensure that it meets our standards. We reserve the right to edit your contribution; we will refuse submissions that we deem to be inappropriate (whether that be through poor structure, poor or non-existent argument, discriminatory content, or an inappropriate topic). You are advised to talk to an editor regarding your piece in advance if you anticipate any issues getting it through the editing process.

It goes without saying that any content found to be plagiarised will be removed from the site immediately, the author’s account deleted and all of the author’s previous submissions with it. It is your responsibility to ensure that your article is free from plagiarism.
